Design: The Snail has been hand crafted by lacware artisans in India who work with SIPA. SIPA is the collective initiative of India based artisan groups and their support organizations involved in trade towards sustainable livelihood of artisans, since 1986. SIPA practices fair-trade (active member of World Fair Trade Organisation, a promoter member of Asia Fair Trade Forum as well as  Fair Trade Forum-India), and works with over 7000 skilled artisans with a large number of Women artisan groups, spread over in all the southern states of India.

 

Materials:The Wooden Snail has been handcrafted in India by local artisans using sustainable wood sources and natural vegetable dyes. Lac products are a specialty product made in Southern Indian villages using traditional skills and abundantly available local wood. The vegetable colours are sourced from the bark, leaves, fruit and flowers of the local flora and dry lac ( also from trees) is mixed on a lathe. The friction causes the lac to melt which gives the product it's gloss. The artisans skill is instrumental in the products having an even finish.Complies with CE Safety Standard.
