Get a piece of Retro Modern
I am quite the fan of modernist furniture, and of recent times became the proud owner of an Australian made Danish Deluxe Lounge suite. When found it was worse for wear, but with a little love and care, a good dose of shellac and new upholstery, I hope the lounge will last another 50 years. Am now on the look out for some dining chairs …… but I digress…
So it was at the Design Made Trade Show in Melbourne in July 2010, that the fabulous Adelaide based business Retro Modern caught my eye. Retro Modern source and restore old unwanted mid century sideboards, buffets and tables and recreate them with their own twist into beautiful pieces of furniture again.
My wish list is expanding ……
How good would this look in your home or beach house?
A look through the Retro Modern website offers a treasure chest of both refurbished pieces, and unrestored pieces just waiting to get a bit of loving before taking pride of place in someone’s house again. If you are in need of some new furniture, it is well worth considering a refurbished piece as not only were many so well made back then, but the pieces are timeless and have a lower impact on the environment by being reused for another lifetime.
What a transformation!

……And old is made new again!
If the above pieces of furniture have wet your appetite, pop on over to Retro Modern – make a cuppa first as you may be some time….. Retro Modern are based in Adelaide but have some pieces available in Melbourne. If you live elsewhere you will be happy to hear they deliver all over Australia!
