Do you yearn for a resurgence of 1980’s fashion? – pastel pinks, blue and yellows in vibrant prints on scarves, large wool jumpers, dresses and bags….think Ken Done, Jenny Kee, Koala Blue by Olivia Newton John……
Now is the time to put your hand up – how many of you are still secretly hoarding these items in the back of your cupboard waiting for this fashion statement to come back in? Well you can still honour this vintage 80’s look by supporting “What Ken Be Done”.
“What Ken Be Done” is a social initiative created by Jackie Ruddock, who on 30 June 2010 began a year long journey pledging to wear Ken Done inspired 1980’s fashion EVERY DAY for a year. Why? Jackie is raising funds to support young refugees in Australia who are involved in The Social Studio in Melbourne – an absolutely wonderful not for profit social enterprise helping the young refugee community develop self esteem, skills and employment through design. The Social Studio gathers recycled and excess manufacturing materials from local industry, and provides training to local refugees who refashion the garments into original pieces!. These pieces are then sold in specially designed mobile shopping carts across the city!
You can view Jackie’s daily fashion statements on her blog - As she does have quite a few more days to fill in her quest to wear special ’80′s pieces for one year, she would love to receive clothing donations . Each item will then be sold on Ebay from October and funds raised will go direct to The Social Studio . Come on – dig deep in the back of your cupboard for some great ’80′s fashion and give it up to a great cause!
