July in Melbourne presents the public with a treasure chest of sustainable goodness – The eagerly anticipated State of Design Festival kicks off on July 14 in Melbourne and regional Victoria, with the inspirational theme “Change by Design”. The aim of the Festival is to encourage us to look at designs that have a positive effect on our home, work and community PLUS being good for the environment. Hurrah!

Kids and adults alike are in for such a treat – Activities have been divided into: To Do, To Hear, To See and Regional Victoria. You can do anything from contributing to discussions on climate change, watch the Iron Designer pressure cooker “design-off”, partake in the Paper Plane Academy and makedo building workshops, attend a screening of Typeface, wander through ARKits full scale pre-fabricated eco house (including two people living in the house and blogging their experience), or have a 10 minute speed date on with leading sustainable architect to discuss your house plans. There are even a variety of design workshops aimed at 13-20year olds – our future creators!

There are so many more fantastic things to see and do that you will just have to pop over to the State of Design website, crack open your diary and start marking them down. The State of Design Festival is on July 14 – 24 in Melbourne and selected locations in regional Victoria. The Festival Hub is at City Square where volunteers will be distributing hardcopy guides, and can even provide assistance in using the State of Design iPhone app!!
