      Chairs to brighten anyone’s room

At the recent Stitches & Craft show in Melbourne, the “Reissued” stall  caught our eye with their remake of these smart mid century classics. Owner, restorer and designer Jacqui Porter launched her business in August 2009, and since then has set about sourcing an eclectic array of chairs and stools, which she has lovingly refurbished in a great range of sustainable textiles.  reissued2

If only these chairs could talk of their past life!

Jacqui has a cute little studio located at the rear of Olive Grove Studios at 159 Sydney Rd,  Brunswick, Victoria where you can have a look at her recreations by appointment, or you can wander through the wonderful Rose St Artist Market in June and July (1st and 3rd Sunday of the month) where she will be featuring her wares. Jacqui is always expanding her range which currently includes cushions, lampshades, pillowcases and table napkins, in addition to her furniture finds. She is also happy to do personal commissions, and can recreate that old piece of furniture that nana gave you years ago!

Jacqui was kind enough to take some time out to participate in our 7 Statements interview:

1. I started my business because …..  I love the idea of reusing. In my case resurrecting furniture that looks jaded or dated so as to create a piece that is more beautiful or interesting than it once was.

 2. The best part of my job is ….. the variety it offers – from scouring junk shops for old pieces of furniture or sourcing gorgeous sustainable fabrics, to actually playing around with fixing the furniture.

 3. My biggest challenge is ….. finding the right furniture that works with the right fabrics to sell at the right price to the right market!

 4. My typical day involves …. a good breakfast with my family and then it’s a fairly “atypical” from there on in – anything can happen!.

 5. I relax by …. hanging out with my partner & young son, pottering in the garden, flicking through house mags with a good coffee or swimming at the Fitzroy pool.

6. I tread a little lighter on the environment by….  re purposing and reusing preloved furniture and using sustainable fabric choices for them so that they might live a bit longer and not end up as landfill.

7. In the next year I hope to….  visit a strangers house and see one of my pieces of furniture in pride of place by the fireside, at the household table or under a wonderful painting!  I am also keen to develop my own eco stool/chair design in the future …….

Thanks Jacqui, we look forward to seeing you new website (coming soon!) and your reissued furniture creations!
