We’ve seen garden makeovers, courtyard makeovers and balcony makeovers, but designers and gardeners are now looking vertical to incorporate some greenery into our living spaces both at home and at work!. Referred to as Vertical Gardens, Green Walls, Living Walls or biogardens, some innovative Australian companies are starting to bring the outdoors in, and redefining how we look at walls inside and out!
QANTAS Lounge, Sydney. Vertical Garden by Patrick Blanc & Greenwall.
Renowned tropical botanist and vertical garden artist, Patrick Blanc from France is putting his mark on establishments in Australia. First Class QANTAS travellers in Sydney are greeted with a 30 metre long wall comprising 8,400 plants personally chosen by Blanc (above). Two further works by Blanc (below) that are more accessible to us normal folk are in Melbourne Central shopping centre, and the recently completed Trio Apartments in Camperdown Sydney. The Trio Apartments have 4500 plants from 70 different species imbedded into felt wadding! At 5 metres wide and 33 metres high, you have to admire their gardener!
